Disturbing video evidence has been released after a Calhoun County Jail officer was charged Monday with misdemeanor battery on an inmate.
Christopher Aaron Doyal, 25, of Altha, has resigned from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. As previously reported he has been on paid leave since the alleged incident occurred the night of Feb. 20.
The County Record (TCR) received a copy of the video and audio evidence in the case Monday. After TCR viewed and listened to the evidence, it became extremely unclear why it took over five weeks to charge Doyal and why the taxpayers have paid his salary for over a month.
As previously reported, Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel viewed the same evidence, but opted not to conduct an internal investigation. Instead, he asked the State Attorney’s Office to review the case and make a determination. He told TCR he did have an opinion on the case, but wanted the State Attorney’s Office to give “a second opinion.”
Ofc. Doyal will receive a notice to appear in court to face the charges. Sheriff Kimbrel had no comment Monday.
