A Blountstown woman has been arrested for improper exhibition of a firearm after brandishing a gun in the Blountstown Public Library Tuesday.
Teresa Stone was arrested in the case and is expected to undergo mental health evaluation.
According to Blountstown Police Chief Kipper Mallory, Stone turned up at the library Tuesday morning heavily intoxicated. She went to the front counter and spoke with library employee Pamela Kahle, eluding to problems she was having with her husband. Stone then remarked, “He’s not getting this back!” and pulled out a .357 magnum handgun.
Kahle remained calm and alerted Library Director Rita Maupin who went over to Stone and invited her into her office so they could pray together and talk about her problems. Stone agreed and kept the gun in her purse as they spoke together.
Meanwhile, Kahle had another library employee, J.K. Newsome, evacuate the building and call authorities.
“I can’t say enough about how well they handled this,” Chief Mallory remarked of the library staff. He commended Maupin for being so brave as to take Stone in her office alone to protect the others in the building.
