FROM THE CALHOUN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
On April 2, 2015, at approximately 10:59 am Central Standard Time (CST), the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to reports of an unresponsive child at Calhoun/Liberty Hospital. The unresponsive child was identified as Anya Dziura (age 2). Anya Dziura was taken to Calhoun Liberty Hospital because she was not breathing. Anya had extensive injuries, including, among other things, fractures to the skull. Ultimately, Anya Dziura was pronounced dead on April 3, 2015.
After conducting an autopsy, the medical examiner determined Anya Dziura’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head. Anya Dziura had been in Stephen Aaron Young’s care on April 2, 2015 after Anya’s mother, Jessica Dziura, left for work earlier that morning.
Based on the foregoing, there is sufficient probable cause to charge Stephen Aaron Young with Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child, Florida Statutes 782.07(3). This offense is a 1st degree felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Investigation is still ongoing.
The child’s mother remains in custody on child neglect charges.
