The County Record is following a developing story involving the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office (LCS0). The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has confirmed that the LCSO is the subject of an investigation, but will not release details at this time. Sources report the investigation stems from an arrest of a man believed to be a convicted felon in possession of a firearm who was later released with his weapon returned. However, other sources indicate the man was previously charged with a felony, but never convicted of the crime, indicating he had the right to bear a firearm in his vehicle. A search warrant was reportedly served on the agency last Friday by FDLE and employees are being interviewed. Sheriff Nick Finch could not comment other than to say he has hired an attorney. The County Record will provide more details as they become available.
