Brian David Spikes, 45, died Monday, February 1, 2016, near Cottondale, Florida. He was born January 15, 1971, at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. He lived in Hosford, Florida moving to the area with his parents in 1986 as an ex-military “Brat”. He graduated from Liberty County High School in 1990 continuing his education in 1992 at Washington-Holmes Area Vocational-Technical Center, Chipley, Florida, completing a certificate in Commercial Vehicle Driving. After successfully completing the training he made a career of semi-trucking and worked with several companies for well over twenty years. He remained employed the longest with Wiley Sanders Trucking, Troy, Alabama. At the time of death he was employed with Pritchett Trucking Lines. He had friends and acquaintances in Calhoun, Liberty, Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla Counties, Florida, and Troy, Alabama. He was a long-time member of Corinth Baptist Church, Hosford, Florida of late attending two other churches: Bristol Pentecostal Holiness Church, Bristol, Florida, and Mount Zion Pentecostal Church, Hosford, Florida. He was admired and loved by family and friends for his good nature and sense of humor. He will be remembered long after his death for his sweet spirit, soft spoken personality, and gentleness. Family was important to him and he often took his nieces, Desirae and Disnee, to movies, the fair, shopping, and other events during their teenage years. He inherited a caring and giving personality from his grandfather Spikes. Most of the time he had a smile that could lite up the room. He was a dedicated Christian, friend, brother, uncle, son, and a bachelor who never married, never found his soul mate, and has no children. He had two living brothers: Roger Hicks, of Colorado and Timothy Hicks, of Alabama, and one sister Wendy (Spikes) Burch (Deceased). He had four nieces and nephews: Desiree Barber and husband Andrew, Disney Ward and husband Chad, all from Bristol, Florida, and Dakota Hicks of Colorado, and Roddrick Hicks of Alabama. He had six great nieces and nephews: Caleb Barber, Madison Barber, Drayden Ward, Peyton Ward, Benjamin Ward, and Dylan Ward; four Ward great nieces and nephews (Brandon, Emma, Jordyn, and Sarah). Brian’s parents are Frederick “Ricky” and Laura Spikes, of Hosford, Florida. His grandparents were: Lynn and Ruby Hale (Both Deceased) of Zephyrhills, Florida and Winston and Annie Spikes (Both deceased), Hosford, Florida. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and Chihuahua, “Little Bit.” Arrangements will be handled by Adams Funeral Home, Blountstown, Florida, telephone: (850) 674-5449. The family will receive friends at Adams Funeral Home, 18034 Main Street North, Blountstown, Florida, on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CT Funeral services will be graveside at the Hosford Cemetery, Highway 65 South, Hosford, Florida at 3 p.m. ET Saturday, February 6, 2016, with Rev. Coy Collins officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brian David Spikes’ name may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
